BRYAN — The Elgin Lady Cats’ season came abruptly to an end Tuesday night in a five-set thriller.
Waller defeated Elgin 10-25, 25-17, 25-19, 17-25, 15-11 at Bryan High School in the bi-district round of the Region III-4A playoffs.
Daniela Cervantes had 15 kills, two blocks and five aces to lead Elgin (32-15).
Cervantes ended her senior season with 364 total kills and 142 total aces.
The District 17-4A champions looked to be in control early taking the first set 25-10.
Waller tied up the match by taking the second set and took the lead after winning the third set 25-19.
The Lady Cats responded in the fourth set, but Waller had a little too much fight in them.
Amanda Sorenson had five kills and six digs while sophomore Shelbi Swenson had nine kills and 14 digs. Ashley Frederick and Kaci Olson each had a team-high 16 digs.
Olson finished the season averaging 3.6 digs per game with a total of 456.
