SMITHVILLE — The Smithville Tigers entered the 2009-10 boys basketball season seeking an identity.
It took one half to find it.
The Tigers manhandled Brazos 79-41 and outscored the Cougars 51-16 in the second half.
Smithville (1-0) was led by a pair of sophomores, who combined for 27 points.
Colton Brown scored 19 points, making five three-point field goals and Oscar Kenebrew added 18, all scored in the second half.
The Tigers only led by six points at halftime.
That was when Kenebrew opened the second half scoring seven straight.
Smithville kept pouring it on in the fourth quarter, opening with a 13-2 run in the first three minutes.
The Tigers struggled with turnovers in the first half, committing nine, but only had two in the second.
Other scorers for Smithville were Wade Childress (11), Reece Fierro (6) and Dominique Ward (5).
The Tigers host Luling Friday. The varsity is scheduled to tipoff at 7:30 p.m.

Cedar Park 74, Bastrop 68
In Cedar Park, The Cedar Park Timberwolves outscored Bastrop 21-8 in the fourth quarter to steal a 74-68 win over the Bears in the boys’s season opener Tuesday.
Bastrop (0-1) led by 13 points going into the fourth and final quarter.
Jordan Roach and Josiah Monroe combined for 46 points, with Roach scoring a team-high 24.
Other scorers for Bastrop were Jacorey Higgins (8), Alton Thompson (7) and Nick Fisher (6).
Bastrop will play in the Georgetown tournament beginning Thursday.
