SMITHVILLE — In an unusual scene, the Smithville Tigers were able to fight off a pesky Luling team for a 64-60 victory.
Luling’s Billy Medford put in 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and had the Tigers’ 15-point lead cut to four before fouling out with 45 seconds left in the game.

The Eagles cut the lead down to two points with a Mark Alcala layup with 16 seconds left to play.
Adam Hahn, however, hit two clutch free throws with seven seconds to seal the win.
And for a game that had a total 55 fouls called and saw 69 free throws shot, it was only fitting that’s how the Tigers sealed it up.
Forty-six of the 55 fouls called were done so in the first half.
In the second quarter, both teams shot a combined 46 free throws, with 35 being shot in the last five minutes of the second quarter.
Colton Brown had 18 points to lead Smithville.
