2009 All-Bastrop County Volleyball Team
Player of the Year: Sydney Wilhelm, Sr., Bastrop
Stats: The best overall volleyball player finished the year leading Bastrop County in kills per game with 3.2 and digs per game with 4.6. Wilhelm had totals of 323 kills and 464 digs. She also was second in hitting efficency with     a hitting percentage of .321 and was fourth      in aces with 45.

Coach Donaldson: I have never had an athlete quite like Syndey. She has such natural athletic ability. She was a silent leader and does so by example. She is very modest about her abilities.

Offensive MVP: Daniela Cervantes, Sr., Elgin
Stats: Daniela Cervantes was the most dominant offensive player for the second year in a row. The District 17-4A Most Valuable Player led Central Texas with 133 service aces while averaging 2.9 kills per game. Cervantes had a total 339 kills.

Coach Smith: Daniela will be very hard to find a replacement for. I have watched her mature as a player and its been exciting.

Defensive MVP:  Kaci Olson, So., Elgin
Stats: In her first year on varsity, Elgin’s Kaci Olson made a splash, not to mention a name for herself. Olson averaged 3.8 digs per game and had 432 total. She trailed only Player of the Year Syndey Wilhelm in that   category.

Coach Smith: She is so quick and above that smart. Kaci is a very hard worker. I was very impressed with her transition to varsity. She has such a big heart for being so little..

Setter of the Year: Rachel Clardy, Jr., Bastrop
Stats: Bastrop County had its fair share of setters, but Bastrop’s
Rachel Clardy proved to be the best in 2009. Clardy led Bastrop County with 8.5 assists per game with a total of 854. She also had 121 digs to go with 28 aces and 16 blocks.

Coach Donaldson: She is the best setter that I have ever coached. I have never had a setter that can call her own plays on the court like Rachel does.

Newcomer of the Year: Shelbi Swenson, So., Elgin
Stats: Shelbi Swenson had 195 kills, 299 digs and 48 aces, which was second only behind Cervantes’ 133. Swenson, the 2009 newcomer of the year on the All-Bastrop County softball team, is a name you will continue to hear in the next few years.

Coach Smith: Shelbi is a very talented athlete. She is a very self-motivated player, always works hard and pushes herself.

Coach of the Year: Hollie Smith, Elgin, 2nd Year
In only her second season at the helm of the Elgin volleyball program, Hollie Smith has returned the Lady Cats to the glory they knew in the 1990s. This year, Smith led the Lady Cats to their first outright district championship in       volleyball since 1991. Smith would have been in middle school then. Elgin had  its second straight playoff berth under her direction. This is her second straight coach of the year honor.
