It might be a sign of the times around high school sports in Bastrop County.
The list of athletes in the recruiting Class of 2010 in Bastrop County is long.
Most on that list are undecided, but they all have had some interest from college coaches.
There is the potential for at least six athletes from the Class of 2010 to sign with Division I colleges.
The class os a special one, but the best is yet to come.
This year’s offerings include Bernard Blake, probably the most visible athlete being recruited, who will definitely be as fun to watch develop in college as he was in high school.
Megan Moore’s athleticism will be very valuable at Southeastern University next year.
By the way, if you haven’t had a chance to watch her play softball make sure you check her out this season.
Elgin has another really good team and she’s just the start of the line of talent.
Gracy Mansfield has rebounded nicely from having knee surgery this summer. Mansfield is still considered one of the top soccer players in Central Texas.
Daniela Cervantes has the height and power to make a great pick up for some college volleyball program.
Sydney Wilhelm might be one of the most talented volleyball players around.
Neither has made a decision yet on their futures. There is still some time left.
As special as the Class of 2010 is, the Class of 2011 might exceed all classes.
Next year, Bastrop County will offer a new class of athletes and a broader range of talent.
Josiah Monroe will pretty much have his choice of going to college to play football or basketball.
He has reportedly been getting a lot of interest in both from some pretty big Division I schools.
I have spoken to a couple of recruiters at Bastrop girls basketball games this year that were there specifically to watch Hillari Raemsch play.
Raemsch is another one that might have a few options should she decide to play college sports.
Scouts undoubtedly are paying close attention to how she is closing out the 2010 season as a junior. Of course, no one is ignoring her cross country talents either.
Elgin softball player Sarah Johnson should also have a few options.
Johnson is one of the most dominant pitchers in Class 4A and her ERA put her in the top five among Central Texas pitchers as a sophomore.
And let’s not forget Elgin swimmer Ellyn Rivers, who might be able to add four trips to the UIL State Swimming and Diving Championships to her resume before she’s done at Elgin.
And the talent pool won’t end in 2011.
The Best of the Class of 2010
BERNARD BLAKE, BASTROP, FOOTBALL
College choice: Colorado State
To note: The senior cornerback has been heavily recruited all season. Blake’s choices ranged from the start-up UT-San Antonio program to North Texas. Blake will finalize his verbal commitment to Colorado State Wednesday as he signs his Letter of Intent.
MEGAN MOORE, ELGIN, SOFTBALL
College choice: Southeastern University(Louisiana)
To note: Moore has already signed her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Southeastern University. She chose the school over Northwestern State.
GRACY MANSFIELD, BASTROP, SOCCER
College choice: Undecided
To note: Mansfield started getting interest last year after scoring a record 38 goals. She hasn’t signed yet, but Lamar was on the top of her list last season.

College choice: Undecided
To note: Wilhelm is still undecided as to where she is going to go. There is interest from a few junior colleges and a couple of universities.

To note: McMillan has had some interest from Ivy League schools, but there hasn’t been an offer. Ivy League schools don’t issue athletic scholarships.
