The necessarily impersonal journalistic style of conveying facts under a headline never does justice to the profound loss felt by the people in a story like this, let alone the rippling circles of lives that are harmed when tragedy strikes. Tens of thousands of people in the US die each year in alcohol related traffic accidents, far more than the numbers that die in the purposeful armed conflicts of war.
