The Bastrop Lady Bears finally put it all together.
Bastrop had four players score in double digits and picked up its first win since Jan. 12, defeating Bowie 71-52 Tuesday night at Bear Gym.
Amber Jackson led the way with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing a team-high 14 rebounds.
Hillari Raemsch also scored 18 points to go with four assists, two steals and three three-point field goals.
Raemsch was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point arch.
Chelsea Moore scored 17 points and had nine rebounds while Wilnesha Roberson had 14 points and eight rebounds.
“We have been looking for this all season,” said head coach Kevin Bussinger. “This is a good way to end the season.”
Bastrop got off to a slow start and trailed the Lady Dawgs by one at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Bears (6-21, 2-12 District 5-5A) started the second quarter with a 16-4 run that included eight points from Raemsch.
Bastrop led by five at halftime, but the flood gates would open in the second half.
Bastrop outscored Bowie 41-25 in the second half.
The Lady Dawgs got into foul trouble and had put the Lady Bears in the bonus by the end of the third quarter.
Bastrop led by 14 going into the fourth quarter, but it was the free-throw shooting of Jackson and Roberson, who combined to make 16-19 free-throw attempts.
“The girls just played basketball and had fun,” Bussinger said. “That’s what is important for us to do. If we have fun, we play well.”
The Lady Bears don’t graduate a single player from this year’s team, which has Bussinger optimistic about next season.
“I look at this as the beginning of next season,” he said. “I am proud of their growth over the year and we will see a lot more going into next season.”
