Bastrop razed the Akins Lady Eagles like mad dogs and picked up a 7-1 victory Friday night at BISD Memorial Stadium, with Kattie Patterson getting her second hat-trick in three games, with four goals.
The Lady Bears (12-3, 5-1 District 25-5A) struck first in the opening minutes of the first half from a well placed corner kick from Kara Edwards to Patterson.
This goal was the catalyst for the Lady Bears’ onslaught, and just the start of a long night for Akins.
The second strike came from Kayln Butler, who was assisted by Patterson.
Lady Bears’ Kendal Ayers continued to pour it on Akins High with the third goal in the middle of the first half with a blazing outside of the box strike that blew past an out-of-place Akins keeper.
Ayers wasn’t done harassing the plummeting Eagles though, she quickly scored again, for the fourth goal of the evening, with a creative assist from Rebekah Voight.
And they were not even at halftime yet.
The final goal of the first half came from the player who started the chain reaction — Patterson, who got an assist from Kerri Kelley.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Akins scored on a free kick from distance that took an awkward bounce against the turf and just out of reach of Lady Bear keeper, Jackie Navarette.
This goal did nothing to stop the Lady Bears’ war of attrition via shots on goal to the disappointment of the demoralized Eagles.
In the closing minutes of the second half, Patterson would cap off an already magical evening with a goal on a curling free kick from 20-yards out.
The Lady Bears weren’t done though, and neither was Patterson, assisted by Hailey Watson, who scored on a one-on-one run against a battered Akins keeper.
The Lady Bears, riding a two game winning streak in district, will face a tough Bowie team Tuesday night with the winner taking sole possession of second place.
