ELGIN — Ashley Frederick has one valuable foot.
Frederick scored her 18th goal of the season — a Bastrop County best — Friday night in a 4-0 win over La Grange at Wildcat Stadium.
For a player that averages two goals per game, Frederick’s lone goal was a rather quiet night for the junior.
It was Santa Araujo, however, who made the most noise with her hat-trick, with two goals being assisted by none other than Frederick.
The win sets up an important game on Tuesday with Manor, the only team that has been able to defeat the Lady Cats in District 48-4A action.
“This was a good warm-up for us before Manor,” said head coach Pedro Eguez. “The girls are coming together, but they are still getting a little anxious at times. We are in first place right now and with a win over Manor (Tuesday) we will be in a good position for the district title.”
Elgin is the defending district champions.
Frederick didn’t take long to make her presence felt Friday.
The striker scored just eight minutes into the game to put Elgin up 1-0.
Araujo quickly added back-to-back goals, with one coming on a penalty kick in the 18th minute.
She scored two minutes later to put Elgin up 3-0 on an assist from Frederick.
Araujo’s hat trick moved her season goal total to eight while junior goalkeeper Sarah Wright picked up her sixth shutout of the season.
The Lady Cats took their three-goal lead into halftime and that’s where the score would stay until the 79th minute when Araujo completed her hat-trick to seal the 4-0 win.
The Lady Cats and Manor will kickoff Tuesday night at 7:45 p.m.
