GIDDINGS — The Elgin Wildcats’ basketball season came to an end Tuesday night in Giddings.
Brenham defeated Elgin 71-41 in the opening round of the boys basketball playoffs. It was the Wildcats’ fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs.
Elgin struggled to defend a Brenham team that was both fast and accurate from the outside, giving up five three-pointers in the first quarter alone and trailed 37-18 at half time.
Ethan Lynch put together a great performance with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats, but it was not enough to lift his team out of a heavy deficit.
Elgin did control the boards however, out-rebounding Brenham 34-20, but the Cubs’ nine three-point shots were too much to overcome.
Marquis Campbell put up 11 points of his own to go with two rebounds.
