It’s time to kick some Michigan rear!
Sunday, Feb. 28, is the last day to vote for the fan favorite distinctive destination – and currently, Bastrop sits in fifth place. Marquette, Mich. sits in a distant first place.
It all started when Bastrop received the honor of being named one of the 12 Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. For the first time, the Trust is asking people to vote for their favorite of the 12.
And guess what? You can vote as often as you like.
I understand that when we look out of our windows and see that beautiful spring-like Texas weather beckoning, the last thing you want to do is sit at your computer and click to vote.
But you have to force yourself.
The city of Marquette averages about 144 inches of snow per year, making it the third snowiest city in the contiguous United States. Just because those folks up in Michigan are stuck inside, probably buried under 13 feet of snow with nothing else to do but vote, doesn’t mean we have to sit back and let them win.
When you compare the two cities, you will see why Bastrop is the natural winner.
I mean, come on, when you are buried under snow most of the time how can you compare to us?
Marquette’s other claim to fame is that it is home to the largest man-made wooden dome in the world, the Superior Dome – unofficially but affectionately known as the Yooper Dome.
Are we really going to let something called the Yooper Dome beat us out?
Will we ever be able to look at ourselves in the mirror again if we do?
So, get busy clicking.
