The new year 2010 brings a fresh start and new opportunity for Bastrop, Cedar Creek and the surrounding BISD area. Whether students, parents, business owners, community volunteers or retired, we all live and/or work in this community. Therefore, we all share a vested interest in its future.
It is with great excitement that members of the Bastrop community have joined together to launch a new hope and expectation for our community. If you haven’t already, you will soon see a billboard recently unveiled to publicly launch our efforts. Post-Secondary Push, also known as PSP, is a community-wide effort to raise the awareness of the need for post-secondary education and training, whether high school graduates or adults that need more education and training to improve their situation. We live in a much different world than we did 20 years ago and technology is rapidly changing the way in which we do things. A clear need exists today to attain more training and education, regardless of our stage in life.
PSP is much more than a trendy name to catch the attention of our young people. It represents a community-wide effort and a community commitment towards the goal of post-secondary education for everyone. Greater education is no longer an option, but a necessity. As our logo exhibits, this post-secondary effort could take the form of college classes, technical/trade school, vocational assistance or the military. Whatever your passion is, the message we want to send is that this community supports everyone in striving towards your education goals, which in turn will make our community a better place for all of us to work and live.
Please join us in our efforts. Through this endeavor, this community has a chance to find common ground and all work together towards a common message that is unmistakably important. In addition to our community billboard, everyone has the opportunity individually to demonstrate support through a choice of yard signs, banners, posters, wristbands and stickers. Members of our committee will be visiting area businesses, schools, churches, organizations and individuals for support in spreading the message through the use of available media. Or, you may contact us directly to join in supporting the message and request a yard sign in front of your home or business. It is our hope that this community will come together in this effort. For questions or to offer your support, you may contact Lori Tuggle at 581-3939 or Donald Williams at 321-2292.
