Player of the Year
Jordan Roach, Jr., Bastrop
Stats: If there was any question about the overall ability of Jordan Roach, his statistics speak for themselves. Roach was the second leading scorer (18.8 PPG) in Bastrop County, third leading rebounder (5.8 RPG) and led the county in assists (116) and steals (102). And get this, as a point guard, Roach was the second leading blocker with 14.
Coach Autrey: We demanded a lot of him and that’s tough on a kid who just came to the school. He’s great kid and great in the classroom. It’s a blessing he was here.
Offensive Player of the Year
Josiah Monroe, Jr., Bastrop
Stats: Monroe was Bastrop County’s leading scorer, averaging 22.9 points per game. Monroe scored a total 732 and is 255 points away from 2,000 career points. He was also second in the county in assists (85) and steals (97).
Coach Autrey: The kid can score at will. Teams had to focus on him, and did, every night and he’d still go out and score his points.
Defensive Player of the Year
Ethan Lynch, Sr., Elgin
Stats: Lynch was Bastrop County’s leading rebounder, averaging 8.1 rebounds per game. The Elgin senior had a total of 242. Lynch was also the third leading scorer (14.3 PPG) in the county.
Coach Schmitt: Statistically, he was our leader on the court, but he was also our leader off of it. He worked hard and got a lot better from his freshman year to his senior year. He was one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached.
Newcomer of the Year
Coltyn Brown, So., Smithville
Stats: Brown was one of seven players to average double digits in scoring with 10.1 points per game. Brown was the Tigers second leading scorer and best three-point shooter. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds per game, which led Smithville.
Coach Adkins: The sky’s the limit for that guy. He’s an incredible player and a hard worker. He’s going to be a pretty good player for us.
Sixth-Man of the Year
Chris Harrell, Jr., Bastrop
Stats: Harrell did what most coaches expect of a sixth-man. Harrell averaged 2.0 points per game from the bench, but had 19 assists and 16 steals.
Coach Autrey: The one thing about chris is that he will do what ever it takes to improve. Those were the things he did.
Coach of the Year
Stephen Aurtey, Bastrop
Stats: Autrey turned Bastrop’s boys basketball team into a winning program in just one year. The Bears doubled their win total from 2009-10 and were in playoff contention all the way until the end. Bastrop returns all five starters next season, so there is a good chance the Bears will continue with their success.
