Bastrop junior guard Jordan Roach was familiar with the Bears basketball team, despite living in Maryland for the last two years.
Roach made the choice to return to his hometown and live with his father, Jackie Roach.
His love for basketball led Jordan to the basketball team at Bastrop High School, where he not only led Bears, but Bastrop County, in steals and assists.
He was also second in scoring and blocks and third in rebounding.
“(Jordan moving here) was a blessing,” said Bastrop head coach Stephen Aurtrey. “We demanded a lot from him, which is tough to ask someone who just came to the school.”
Roach accepted his role and excelled at it.
Whenever the Bears needed points, he produced with his 18.8 points per game.
He also was able to find the open man with 116 assists and played exceptional defense with his 102 steals.
Roach had 31 more assists than Josiah Monore, who had the second most assists in Bastrop County.
Roach also produced on the boards, pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game as a guard, which was the third most in the county.
As for blocking, yeah, Roach did that too and had the second most in the county with 14.
As nice as all the statistics are, Roach said there is one thing he’d like to have back.
“I’d like another chance at Westlake,” he said. “We had them, but lost in the fourth quarter.”
Besides the loss to Westlake, Roach said he sees something very special in this team.
“Our chemistry on the court is so good because we are all friends off of it,” he said. “I think we can go undefeated next year in our district and get to the playoffs.”
