The Friends of the Bastrop County Animal Shelter will sponsor this year’s Animal Shelter Open House with the goal of exceeding last year’s record for adoptions in a single day and providing a fun and educational family atmosphere for learning about animals.
A record number of animals were adopted last year at the Friends’ Animal Shelter Open House. This year the hope is to set another new record. On Saturday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Bastrop County Animal Shelter will be host to law enforcement demonstrations, animals to be petted and adopted, vendors with giveaways, fun activities for kids and much more. The shelter is located at 589 Coolwater Dr., off Hwy. 95 near Bastrop.
“Last year’s event featured impressive demonstrations by the Travis County K-9 unit, Tail Town Training and the Capital of Texas Zoo. There were a variety of activities for children, including face painting, lots of games, exploring the Bastrop Volunteer Fire Department trucks, learning about safety from the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office and learning about the spay/neuter program and animal cruelty prevention,” said Roxanne Hernandez, Friends’ board member.
With all the fun events taking place, there were plenty of adoptions happening, too. More adoptions occurred that single day than any other day in the shelter’s 15-year history.
