ELGIN — The Elgin Lady Cats remained undefeated in District 17-4A and defeated Lehman 10-0 in six innings Monday at Lady Cat Field in Elgin.
Elgin (20-2, 7-0 District 17-4A) got 13 hits and dug Lehman a big hole in the first inning.
The Lady Cats had a six-run first inning that saw Kelsey Markham hit a triple to left field, driving in three runs to put Elgin up 6-0 after the first inning.
Morgan Schultz and Chelsea Everage also drove in runs and Kaci Olson scored on a throwing error.
Elgin added two more runs in the second inning thanks to RBIs from Hillary Adams and Alyssa Wilkins to drive in Olson and Shebi Swenson, respectively.
Lady Cat freshman hurler Lauren Slatten, who entered Monday’s game with a 0.06 ERA, had nine strikeouts and gave up just four hits and had nine strikeouts in the shutout win.
Elgin kept pouring it on in the third inning when Swenson drove in Megan Moore with a line-drive single to center field to put the Lady Cats up 9-0.
The Lady Cats finally got the last run needed for the 10-run rule victory in the bottom of the sixth inning in the second at bat.
Adams slammed a double to left field to open the inning and was plated on a sacrifice by Bailey Alanis in the next at bat to win the game.
The Lady Cats travel to Manor Thursday.
Elgin has won five of their last seven games by the 10-run rule.
