The Bastrop Bears  flared with a momentary spark of brilliance Friday night at Bear Field, but that spark was soon squelched by the Connally Cougars, 6-2.
The Cougars took the lead in the top of the second inning after Bears pitcher Kegan Johnson threw a wild pitch in the dirt that allowed Zach Tobler to slide safely into home plate.
The Cougars would soon score again in the top of the third inning when Deandre Lankford hit a double, stole third and then was drove home by Dustin Babola.
Connally would continue to pour it on Bastrop. Ben Green, hit an RBI-double to bring home Steven McMillan.
Bastrop would finally revive in the bottom of the fourth when Cade Staton, put himself on second base and was plated by Colton Tucker’s double.
Colton would catch McMillan sleeping, and stole third and later home to the complete Bastrop’s scoring.
Bastrop hosts first place Westlake Tuesday at 7 p.m.
