Westlake pitcher Miles Hanson wasn’t the fastest pitcher, but he proved to be the most efficient.
Hanson pitched a complete game one-hitter as Westlake defeated Bastrop 4-0 Tuesday at Bear Field, clinching a playoff spot for the Chaparrals.
“We gave them too many chances and didn’t hit the ball,” said Bastrop head coach Mark Williams. “As far as our playoff position, who knows. We have to win out and have some help, but we are still have a shot.”
The loss puts Bastrop into a position to where the Bears must win their final four games.
Bastrop (5-16, 2-8 District 25-5A)  got its only hit in the first inning on the very first at bat.
Justin Froncek hit an infield single, but Hanson struck out two of the next three batters and got Cade Staton to fly out to center field.
After that, Bastrop had just two more base runners while Hanson recorded seven strikeouts.
Staton reached first on an error by Westlake third baseman Alexei Munez and stole second base.
The senior shortstop was thrown out while trying to steal third base.
Kegan Johnson was walked in the bottom of the sixth and reached second on an error, but was caught in a double play.
Bastrop will travel to Austin to take on second place Anderson at Nowack Sports Complex. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
