Soccer: Patterson’s leg is most valuable

AUSTIN — Bastrop’s Kattie Patterson’s leg proved to be the most valuable as the senior striker was named the District 25-5A Offensive MVP.
Patterson led Bastrop with 25 goals and 13 assists. She was third in Central Texas in scoring.
The Lady Bears were 10-2 when Patterson scored at least one goal.
She will play in the fall for Prairie View A&M University.
Head coach Angelia Watson was named the district top coach after leading Bastrop back to the playoffs for the fourth straight season.
The Lady Bears went 14-7-3 this season and lost to San Antonio Reagan in the first round of the playoffs for the third straight season.
Watson recently announced her resignation as head coach and will take the girls coordinator and head girls soccer coach positions at the new Lone Star High School in Frisco.
Seniors Kara Edwards and Kerri Kelley were selected to the all-district first team.
Edwards will continue her soccer career next season at Angelo State University in San Angelo.
Senior Kaylyn Butler and juniors Stacy Smith and Rebekah Spalding were selected to the all-district second team.
Butler was second on the team in scoring with seven goals.
Honorable mention selections from Bastrop included freshmen Haley Mendel and Meghan Morris and senior goalkeeper Jackie Navarette.
Also, Edwards, Kelley, Butler and Amanda Banta were selected to the Academic All-State Girls Soccer team.
