After months of eying a 10-acre section of land next to the new Memorial Stadium off Texas 21, the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plot’s purchase during their monthly school board meeting Tuesday.
The contract for the land, which is expected to be used for additional parking, was negotiated with its owner Bobbie Lee Williams for $250,000, according to presentation included in Tuesday’s board meeting agenda.
The funds will come out of a remaining section of the 2007 bond proceeds that were approved for the construction of a new stadium and land purchases.
According to a memorandum provided by BISD Superintendent Steve Murray, “the purpose of making this real property purchase is to support the further development of Bastrop Memorial Stadium by providing additional space, when needed, for parking overflow and other uses.”
With Tuesday’s adoption of the resolution approving the purchase, the next step involves the school district hiring consultants to undertake a formal survey and appraisal of the land, as well as other reports necessary under the required inspection period.
The property is located directly adjacent to Memorial Stadium and alongside the district’s eastern property boundary.

Purchasing more property will not make it easier to get in and out of the stadium on game nights. The ONLY way that can be done is to reroute hwy 21.

  2. Michael Stoll says:

Yes, Pat you are exactly correrct! I would like for the people responsible for choosing that site to step forward and make themselves known. It was done under a shroud of secrecy and not one word was in the paper until the construction was well under way! Someone should assume responsibility for this fiasco!
