Editor:

Sunday evening I was outside with my dogs trying to reel them in when a young woman out walking stopped to help. We visited about 30 minutes during which time I mentioned my recent outpatient surgery.

The next day brought a knock on the door. She had picked up a delicious barbecue plate for me and apologized that it was not a home-cooked dinner. Imagine! We had another nice visit.

Next day she brought a homemade meal. Unbelievable! In her busy schedule, Donna Van Gilder found time to feed and comfort a total stranger. But in her eyes, I am a neighbor – a member of her community, someone in need.

Her vision is: If everyone helps a little, the community will flourish. She is inspiring. I will find my way to give back and contribute to my community.
