Editor:

Bastrop Independents is a new organization in Bastrop County for independent (non-aligned) voters. We are holding a public forum on the costs of growth Wednesday, Aug.18 at 7 p.m. at the Bastrop Public Library, 1100 Church St..

Bastrop is growing at twice the rate of Travis County.  But who pays for it?  And who gets to decide how we grow?

Bastrop is also witnessing one of the most hotly contested races in the state for the Texas House between incumbent Republican Tim Kleinschmidt and Democratic activist and challenger Pati Jacobs. Independent voters who vote for the person rather than party could decide this race.

The issue in this race is the cost of growth. Will developers pay their fair share for roads and other infrastructure? Is water a commodity to be sold and sent somewhere else, undermining our agricultural needs? What is real economic development that will spur local business? Small developer Brian Rodgers, co-founder of ChangeAustin.org, will be one of our guest speakers. Both state representative candidates have been invited to come and share their views. Activists who are fighting the placement of a private airport near the Bastrop/Travis county line will share their concerns.

If you signed a petition for Carole Strayhorn or Kinky Freidman in 2006, you will have the right to vote on our endorsements.  Please come and bring your independent-minded friends. Voters of all party persuasions are welcome too!

Sincerely,

Linda Curtis

Twenty-two subdivisions within the CTA “Airport Compatibilitay Zone” of almost 22,000 acres (2200 within Travis County), will be negatively affected by this boondoggle.
The affected subdivisions are: Webberwood Oaks-all sections, Webberwood-all sections, Webberwood Ridge, Lazy River Acres, River Crossing, Mesa Verde Estates, Persimmon Hills-North & South, Deer Run, Fawn Ridge, The Forest At Colorado Crossing, Texas Heritage, Backwoods, Hillcrest, Estates At Wilbarger Creek, Enchanted Rock, Pope Bend, Rocky S Etates, The Oaks, Towering Oaks, and Cottontop Hills.
If you live or own property within a 11.36 mile long, 3 mile wide corrider aligned with the runway, YOU ARE AFFECTED AND NEED TO ATTEND AND FIND OUT MORE!
