Monroe Otto Wilhelm, age 80, of Bastrop passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010.
He was born November 11, 1929 to Edward and Mathilda Wilhelm. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Scott Monroe Wilhelm.
Monroe is survived by his wife, Shirley Kuehn Wilhelm of 52 years, daughter Julie (husband Donald) Barron, daughter Pamela (husband Ralph) Swearingen, daughter Jennifer (husband Greg) Vinklarek, and grandchildren Adam, Bret, Cameron and Dane Barron, Sara and Seth Swearingen, and Andrew, Ariel, and Amanda Vinklarek. He is also survived by his brothers Woodrow (wife Barbara) Wilhelm of San Antonio, James (wife Gail) Wilhelm of Manor, Cletus (wife LaVerne) Wilhelm of Austin, Victor (wife Linda) Wilhelm of Round Rock, and Jerry (wife Gayle) of Rockne; sisters Virginia (husband Cooper) Homann of Lockhart, Dorothy (husband Johnny) Machacek of Pasadena, Anna Rose (husband Tommy) Osborn of Rockne, Rachel (husband Johnny) Vasicek of Austin, Clara White of Austin, Flora (husband Gary) Karn of Austin, Glendine Rathman of Taylor, Judy (husband Robert) Potts of Bastrop; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Monroe worked for the Texas Highway Department for 39 years. He served in the Navy during the Korean War for 3 years 9 months and 18 days. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2527. As a member of Ascension Catholic Church he always served when he was needed. He always loved being with his friends and his family.

The family received visitors at Bastrop Providence Funeral Home, 2079 Highway 71 East in Bastrop, Monday, Aug. 23. Rosary was Monday, Aug. 23 at Ascension Catholic Church, 800 Pine St. Bastrop. Funeral Services were Tuesday, August 24, at Ascension Catholic Church. Burial followed at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rockne.
