Bastrop head coach Gerald Perry said a shortened week is welcomed after the Bears 22-20 loss to McNeil.
“We want to play,” he said. “Kids know what happen and they feel like they have something to prove now.”
The Bears (0-1) will face former La Grange coach Wes Walker and Seguin tonight at BISD Memorial Stadium.
The game is televised on KBVO-TV (Time Warner Cable channel 1521) and will kickoff at 7 p.m.
Seguin defeated Uvalde 35-20 Saturday at The Alamodome in San Antonio in Walker’s first game as the Matadors head coach.
Perry said his team understands the mistakes they made and will be a much different team this week.
“It falls back on me not getting the kids ready to play,” Perry said. “We will play a much better game this week. The kids understand that you have to play for four quarters.”
Bastrop led 13-3 at halftime, but came out flat in the second half as McNeil took a 22-13 in the fourth quarter.
“What worked in the first half wasn’t working in the second,” Perry said. “We were mentally shaken, but we got that corrected.”
Perry said Seguin had a couple of athletic defensive ends and plays aggressive defense, but felt the Matadors don’t match with Bastrop’s team speed.
