BREAKDOWN
OFFENSE
One thing we know about Elgin’s offense is that it can score. The Wildcats average 35 points and 482.5 yards per game. Taylor has played back-to-back first-year varsity teams, but has scored just 35 points combined.
Advantage: Elgin
DEFENSE
In their season opener, the Taylor Ducks gave up 45 points to Elgin’s District 16-4A rival Bryan-Rudder. The following week, Vandergrift gained 320 yards of offense against the Ducks. Elgin has the slight advantage here.
Advantage: Elgin
INTANGIBLES
Taylor has yet to play a team that fields any seniors on its roster. While this is a rivalry game, last year’s 30-21 loss to the Ducks on its home field isn’t that distant of a memory in the minds of the Wildcats.
Advantage: Elgin
OVERALL
Taylor lost a lot to graduation and really cannot match up with the athleticism and speed of Elgin. Dylan Scott and Da’Rick Nolan should have big games against a Taylor defense that has had 73 points scored against it.
Advantage: Elgin
