CEDAR CREEK — Kenny Williams proved not to be a factor as Bastrop defeated Hendrickson 35-21 Friday night at BISD Memorial Stadium.
Bastrop’s defense held Hendrickson’s star running back to just 27 yards on 10 carries. The Bears (5-2, 2-1 District 16-4A) also kept the Texas Tech commit out of the end zone.
Meanwhile, Bastrop quarterback Josiah Monroe tallied 362 yards of offense and scored five total touchdowns.
At halftime, Monroe had just as many passing yards — 162 — as the Hawks (3-5, 1-3)) did total offense.
Bastrop’s defense shut Williams down all together in the first yards, holding him to just seven yards on seven carries.
Williams, however, did pass 1,000 yards rushing for the third time in his career at Hendrickson and now has 1,016 yards this season.
Prior to Bastrop holding him to just 2.7 yards per carry on Friday, Williams was averaging 8.6 yards per carry this season.
The Bears jumped out to a 28-7 lead at halftime as Hendrickson was held to just 136 yards of offense.
The Hawks did capitalize on the big play at times.
Damarion Jackson scored the game’s first touchdown on a 12-yard run that was set up by a 65-yard blast by Daje Johnson on Hendrickson’s second play from the line of scrimmage.
After that, Bastrop’s defense dominated Hendrickson as the Hawks’s biggest play for the remainder of the first half went 12 yards.
Monroe struck back after Hendrickson’s score with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Mason Foytick.
Bastrop scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter thanks to two more touchdown passes from Monroe, who also scored on a 29-yard run.
Hendrickson came out in the third quarter and capitalized on more big plays.
Jackson scored again on a 1-yard run after a 37 run earlier.
Johnson lated scored on a 72-yard pass from Jackson to move Hendrickson to within seven points going into the fourth quarter.
Bastrop, however, went to its running game and had 22 running plays as Monroe scored to open the fourth quarter from the 1-yard-line.

Outstanding game by Def. Don`t think Williams has ever been held to that few yd`s. his entire career. Going to need that same effort this week. I believe Bastrop runs the table & takes District Title for the 2nd year in a row. GO BEARS!!!!!

Just read this Thursdays edition of “The Advertiser”. Why all the negativity Mr. Adams? Except for one emotional play, Bastrop would be 3-0. Nobody can score with the Bears. Also, if you look at standings, Bastrop will make playoffs no matter what happens Friday. All they have to do is beat Elgin. If they can hold one of the best backs in the state, they can stop #35 for Connally. I still think they win out & take district.
