WACO — Bastrop fans may give Josiah Monroe the nickname “Mr. November” if the senior quarterback keeps it up.
Monroe threw for 400 yards and ran for 164, scoring six total touchdowns as Bastrop defeated Sulphur Springs 58-44 Friday night at Panther Stadium in a Class 4A, Region II area playoff.
Monroe has thrown for 901 yards and rushed for 325 yards and scored 12 total touchdowns in two playoff wins for Bastrop.
Bastrop (9-3) will take on Frisco Liberty on Friday at Cowboys Stadium in a regional playoff. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Monroe got started on a touchdown run from the 1-yard-line and then another on a 10-yard run to start the second quarter.
Down 14-3, Sulphur Springs (9-3) finally found the endzone when Justin Ownes threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to Cody Clayton.
Monroe added another score for good measure, finding Josh Taylor for a 35 yard TD pass with 1:30 left in the half.
Kendrick Daniels woke up in the second half after Bastrop held the Wildcats speedy running back to just 67 yards in the first half.
Daniles had three rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and scored four total in the second half en route to finishing with 305 yards.
Daniels scored back to back touchdowns of 58 and 45 yards after some controversy that led Bastrop to kick a field goal on what should have been third down.
Monroe, however, kept answering everything Sulphur Springs could put on the scoreboard.
