The Bastrop Fine Arts Guild is moving closer to its goal of relocating on Chestnut Street after the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation board carried through on the final stages of approving a $100,000 grant to the guild.
Drought dropping Simsboro aquifer

The Simsboro aquifer is showing stress from one of the worst droughts ever recorded in Central Texas, according to Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District General Manager Joe Cooper, who said that electronic monitoring data indicates the aquifer has declined seven to eight feet in Bastrop County and up to 18 feet in Lee County in the past two months.

The Bastrop County Commissioners Court on Monday authorized the sheriff’s office to apply for a noncompetitive grant to pay for hardware and computer software that would allow county law enforcement to perform its own computer and digital media forensic analysis.
