BASTROP BEARS
Head coach: Mark Williams (3rd Year)
2011 record: 10-20 (2-10)
District finish: 7th
Last playoff appearance: 1996
Returning starters: 15
Starters lost: 2
Key returnees: Cameron Williams, Blake Zimmermann, Bradley Klaus, Jake
Hernandesz
Key newcomers: Devin Weiss, Bryan
Hendrix, Brock Wickcliffe, Tyler Brown
Key losses: Joey Muehr, Justin Froncek
Outlook: Bastrop’s pitching rotation is collectively the best in District 16-4A. Head coach Mark Williams will have five players that throw 80 MPH or better. The Bears got off to a hot start in 2011 and fizzled out once district play began, losing its last nine of its last 10 games. The Bears were a young team last year, but with experience and pitching, Bastrop has high prospects of snapping a 16-year playoff absence. Offense may be the biggest hurdle for the Bears. Leading hitter Blake Zimmerman (.365) and Jake Hernandez (.309) are back, but Bastrop did lose leadoff hitter Justin Froncek. Bastrop should be in the playoff hunt.
