ELGIN WILDCATS
Head coach: Bryan Muschalek (1st year)
2011 record: 15-15 (5-7)
District finish: fifth
Last playoff appearance: 2009
Returning starters: 6
Starters lost: 5
Key returnees: Canaan Johnson, Devin Word, Geno Perez, Michael Wellings
Key newcomers: James Stanesic, Dalton Irwin, Michael Wisnet
Key losses: Dylan Scott, Justin Lundgren, Ricky Howell, Gavin Pello
Outlook: The Elgin Wildcats are a bit of an enigma this season. Elgin has a new head coach and lost two of the best pitchers in District 16-4A – Justin Lundgren and Dylan Scott – along with the area’s leading hitter – Gavin Pello (.409). On paper, Elgin looks to be having a rebuilding year, but no one should count the Wildcats out. There is still a lot of talent returning and a group of newcomers that might surprise a lot of teams once they get their chemistry together. Much like Cedar Creek, the Wildcats’ inexperience may hurt them in the early part of the season, but that won’t last too long.
